-THE LIFE OF CHRIST - THE GALILEAN MINISTRY

-The Demanding of a Sign

-Matt 12:38-45, Luke 11:19-36*

*In regards to Luke 11:19-36, please read the comments in the previous section.

-It is difficult to fully comprehend the audacity of those making this request.  Just think of the
things witnessed by these men.  Yet, they had the nerve to ask for a sign.  Amazing!

-Jesus rebuked the Jewish leaders for their request and referred to the sign of Jonah.
Although His message was not understood at this point, Jesus was referring to His death,
      burial and resurrection.

-Jesus then contrasted these men to the men of Nineveh and the queen of Sheba.  Unlike these
 Jewish
leaders, the men of Nineveh were willing to repent and the queen of Sheba was willing
 to openly
seek words of wisdom.

-Jesus then referred to a demon being cast out yet returning with other, more wicked spirits to the
same person.  Clearly, the application is being made to that present generation – Matt 11:45.
Their impenitent hearts provided the perfect location for the increasing presence of evil.  They
were wicked at that time.  Their wickedness would continue to increase.
