-THE LIFE OF CHRIST - THE GALILEAN MINISTRY
-Jesus’ Mother and Brethren Want to Take Him Home
-Matt 12:46-50, Mark 3:31-35, Luke 8:19-21
-It seems that these family
members are the ones spoken of in Mark 3:21. It also seems
that they were wanting to “rescue” Jesus
from the multitude and give Him an opportunity
for peace and rest.
-However, when Jesus was
interrupted with the news that His family wanted to talk to Him,
Jesus used
the opportunity to teach a
valuable lesson.
-By referring to His followers as
His mother and brethren, Jesus revealed the supremacy of
spiritual relationships over physical relationships.
-What a blessing it is to be a
part of Jesus’ family – Jesus as our brother (Heb
2:11)
and God
as our Father (Gal
3:26-27)!
-It is truly a wonderful blessing
when a person can have a spiritual relationship with God
coupled
with support and encouragement
from earthly family members. However, it is a
shame when people have to abandon their physical
relationships in order to enter into and
maintain a spiritual
relationship with God. However,
to their credit, many have done so in
order to be in harmony with God realizing the
supremacy of the spiritual over the physical.
-It is absolutely shameful when a
person forfeits a spiritual relationship with God in order
to maintain a relationship with earthly family. Unfortunately, far too
many have done so.
-May we always raise our children in such a way that they can
enjoy our earthly
relationships while maintaining a spiritual relationship with God! Then, may
our children
exercise the wisdom
necessary when selecting their spouse so that they, too, can support
one another and their children in these endeavors!
-Notice, in order to be a part of
God’s spiritual family, we must do the will of God (Mark
3:35) –
“hear the word of
God, and do it” (Luke 8:21).
-James 1:22
