THE LATER JUDEAN MINISTRY

-Jesus Once Again Accused of Working With the Power of Satan & A Sign Requested

-Luke 11:14-36

-Upon healing a man possessed with a demon, some of the people were amazed and some made

 the blasphemous accusation that Jesus was working through the power of Satan.

            -See pgs 28 & 29 of our study.

-There were also those present who requested a sign.  To this familiar request, Jesus once again

  responded with reference to the sign of Jonah.

            -See pg 29 of our study.

-In the midst of the blasphemous accusations and the misguided request for a sign, a woman

  complimented Jesus with a reference to His mother.

            -“Jesus gives praise to his mother, but he never intended that she be worshiped; he does not

             deny the woman’s words, but points out who, rather than his natural mother, are to be

             counted as blessed, even those who hear and keep the word, the whole counsel, commands,

             and will of God” (Boles, 1940, pg 236).

            -Mary was blessed and privileged in her role of bearing Jesus.  However, the role of a

             Christian is more blessed and privileged in the fact that Jesus bears our sins.  In the fact that

             Mary bore Jesus, she was placed in a physical relationship with Him as His mother.  Those

             who “hear the word and keep it” are placed into a spiritual relationship with Christ as His

             brethren (see Heb 2:11).
