-Passing Through Galilee - Jesus Foretells His Death, Burial & Resurrection

-Mark 9:30-32; Matthew 17:22-23; Luke 9:43(b)-45

-At this time, Jesus and the apostles traveled from the area of Mt. Hermon and Caesarea-Philippi

  back into and through Galilee.

-Jesus continued to travel privately with the apostles for the purpose of teaching them.

-During this time, Jesus continued to teach the apostles about His death, burial and resurrection.

These were things that he wanted to “sink down into [their] ears” (Luke 9:44).

-However, they still didn’t understand.  This point is emphasized in Luke 9:45 - “They

understood not”, “it was hid from them”, “they perceived it not.”  Yet, they were to

             remember these words.

-Even though they didn’t understand, the apostles were afraid to ask any questions.

-How many times have we done the same with lesser matters?

-Matthew 17:23 indicates that they were “exceeding sorry” (KJV), “deeply grieved” (NASB),

              “filled with grief” (NIV).

-“Peter’s experience taught them not to attempt to correct Jesus while thus speaking, so

there was nothing left for them but to grieve at his words…What was told to them was

not for their present but their future benefit, and therefore they were left to puzzle over

the words of Jesus” (McGarvey/Pendleton, pg 427).
