-THE PEREAN MINISTRY
-Jesus, Continuing Toward Jerusalem, Departs From Galilee
-Matthew 19:1-2; Mark 10:1
-As stated previously in our study (pg 108), Jesus was drawing closer to His visit to Jerusalem in
which His death, burial and resurrection would take place. He now departs from Galilee and re-
enters Perea.
-With regards to our place in the book of Mark, “This chapter records a few of the events of
Jesus’ Perean ministry, recorded much more fully by Luke, but here comprising only this single
chapter. It is nevertheless a kind of dividing line between the first nine chapters devoted to the
public ministry of our Lord and the last six outlining the events of the Passion and subsequent
resurrection” (Coffman, Mark, pg 199).
-“The records of Matthew, Mark, and Luke have been called the ‘Galilean gospels’ because their
scene is mostly in Galilee, and their subject the ministry of Jesus in that section; John’s record
has been called ‘the Judean gospel’ because its scene is mostly in Judea and in Jerusalem”
(Boles, Matthew, pg 385).
-“As far as we know, Jesus never returned to Galilee till after his resurrection” (id. at pg 384).
