BE VIGILANT
-In 1 Peter 5:8, Peter also instructs us to “be vigilant”.
-vigilant – (Strongs)** - gregoreuo - to keep awake, i.e. watch (literally or figuratively
KJV - be vigilant, wake, (be) watch (-ful).
-(Vines)* - gregoreo - "to watch,"…"keeping awake,"…"spiritual alertness,"…
"be watchful" (KJV, "be vigilant")
-So, “vigilant” carries with it the idea of being awake, watchful and alert.
-Let’s see how this word is used in some other passages:
-Matt 26:38 – “watch”
-Matt 24:43 – “he would have watched”
-1 Cor 16:3 – “watch ye”
-1 Thess 5:6-10
- vs 6 - “let us watch” - gregoreuo (be sober = nepho as in 1 Pet 5:8 – “sober”)
-vs 8 – (“be sober” = nepho as in 1 Pet 5:8 – “sober”)
-vs 10 – “we wake” – gregoreuo
-Acts 20:31
-Mark 13:35-37 – “watch ye” (vs 35), “watch” (vs 37)
-We as Christians need to be watchful, awake and alert because of the lurking dangers of
the devil and the ways of sin.
-He is a “roaring lion seeking whom he may devour”.
