Richard’s Remarks: Words of Thanksgiving
With the approaching of Thanksgiving Day
A few words I would like to say.
In regards to the many gifts that come from above,
Each and every one - a token of God’s love.
“Count your many blessings” our voices recite in song,
But to really do so - it would take oh, so long.
For God has been wonderful, so gracious and kind;
Let’s always remember to keep Him first in mind.
Psalm 100:4, part of God’s word which is always living
Reminds us to “enter into his gates with thanksgiving.”
And not only thanksgiving, but “into his courts with praise”
For it is unto him, that all glory is to be raised.
“Be thankful unto him and bless his name”.
To forget to thank God would be an awful shame.
For in our daily lives we are all so richly blessed;
So let’s thank God each night before, on our pillows, we rest.
In Jesus’ teachings he spoke of the lilies of the field;
For above them, to us, God would his blessings yield.
So take therefore no thought for what is on the morrow;
The things of this world aren’t ours, they are just for us to borrow.
God has provided so richly for both you and me.
Psalm 18:49, “Therefore will I give thanks unto thee”
For food and for clothing, for shelter and for health.
When we think of our blessings, we realize our great wealth.
But upon this Earth, my treasures will not be found;
For as the song says, I am “heavenward bound.”
So please forgive us Lord, as through this world we press,
Allowing ourselves to worry, becoming victims to stress.
For we sometimes lose focus in pursuit of worldly possessions.
Therefore we pray, Lord, help us to find better discretions.
That in all things, as through this world we do wander,
We’ll look forward to when the “Roll is called up yonder”.
In Philippians 4:6, we find the words of Paul,
Important instructions to be heeded by us all.
These help us to realize that it’s through prayer and supplication
That we find God’s avenue of reducing our worldly frustration.
“Be careful for nothing” is the challenge set forth
And we find in this process, thanksgiving’s great worth.
Giving thanks to God is expressed throughout the inspired word
As in Psalm 92:1, “It is a good thing to give thanks unto the Lord”.
So let’s be thankful for the lives we’ve been given and all that is within
Not like those in Romans 1:21 who were not thankful and sinned.
But above all, we need to thank God for the fact that he relieves us
From the depths of the burdens of sin, through the sacrifice of Jesus.
For no matter how hard we try, we still make many a mistake
And it is the most important thing, our souls, that lie at stake.
While we were yet sinners, for us, God commended his love,
And therefore Jesus came to Earth, leaving his home above.
And even though he went about always showing his compassion
He was willing to go to the cross, the result of man’s sinful action.
So as we find in 2 Corinthians, chapter 9 and15th verse
Words that we should always, in our hearts and minds, rehearse;
Paul recorded “Thanks be unto God for his unspeakable gift”
Because without it, lost in sin, we would all still be adrift.
For we know that all have sinned and fallen short of His glory
Without Christ, therefore, we would find a sad end to the story.
But since Christ died on the cross, giving his life for you and me
1 Corinthians 15:57 tells us we can share in the victory.
It’s humbling for us to think as we sing “How Great Thou Art”
That God loves us so much, even though we are a very small part.
For James 4:14 asks, “What is your life? It is even a vapour.”
Yet, God loves us so much that he provided us with a Savior.
So when it comes to thanking God there aren’t enough words to say,
But actually what God wants most of all, is for us to...obey. - RC
