I awoke this morning in the warmth of a house
To smiles from my children and a kiss from my spouse.
In the shelter of a home protected from the cold breeze,
Important reminders that I live a life of ease.
I walked out the door with good shoes on my feet
Got in the minivan, drove to the restaurant to eat;
With money in my wallet and clothes on my back
Realizing now that there’s hardly a thing that I lack.
And now as Thanksgiving approaches – soon on the morrow
I think of all the things that God allows us to borrow.
Yes, we have a loving God who is abiding up in heaven;
Let’s thank Him each day of the week – yes even all seven.
For true happiness is supplied by our Father above
Who reached down to us with grace, mercy and unspeakable love
When He sent Jesus to this Earth – not counting the cost
Of the terrible crucifixion and the agony of the cross.
True blessings are not found in Earth’s material wealth
But in things like love, joy, peace and spiritual health;
Forgiveness of sins thanks to the blood that Jesus shed
Yes, before us all, a spiritual feast has been spread.
So pull up a chair and join Him at the table
Because God is willing and He is certainly able
To free us from the despair brought about by sin –
Redemption, Justification, an eternal home with Him.
Those who don’t understand say I’m still far from wealth
But if I lost all of Earth’s goods, I’d still have spiritual health.
I’m rich and I’m happy – receiving more than I deserve
Knowing in heaven I have my own place and it’s reserved.
So I gaze up to heaven and offer my Thanksgiving
Because I was dead in sin, but now in Christ, I’m living. - RC
