When Jesus Comes
-Introduction
-Last week, we considered the question, “What happens when a person dies?”
-To answer that question we looked at:
-1. what happened to Jesus when He died
-When He was resurrected, He had not yet returned to the Father (Jn 20:17).
-Instead, He had gone to a place called paradise (Luke 23:43).
-Paradise was/is a part of the place referred to as Hades (Acts 2:27,31).
-2. what happens according to the teachings of Jesus (Luke 16:19-31)
-There is also a place of torment in Hades (vs 23,24,25)
-Between the paradise and torment portions, there is a great gulf (vs 26).
Therefore, nobody can pass from one place to the other.
-We also briefly considered Revelation 20:11-15 which shows that Hades is a temporary
dwelling place. Upon the 2nd coming of Jesus, it will be emptied. All will be
participants at the day of judgment from which people will either enter into heaven or
depart into hell.
-Again, when will this take place? - at the return of Jesus
-So, let’s consider some information revealed in the scriptures regarding Jesus’ 2nd coming.
-It Will Be Audible (Heard) and Visible (Seen)
-1 Cor 15:50-58 - trump shall sound
-1 Thess 4:15-18 - shout, voice of the archangel, trump
-Rev 1:7 - every eye shall see
-Acts 1:9-11 - “they beheld,” “out of their sight,” “looked,” “gazing,” “come in like manner
as ye have seen”

-2 Pet 3:10

-Matt 25:31-46

-Summary and Invitation
-There are a number of details that we simply aren’t given. Yet, God has given us the
information that we need.
-Deut 29:29
-We know that these events are going to take place.
-Matt 24:42-44
-We must prepare for these coming events. And, by preparing, we don’t have to
anticipate them with fear and dread. Instead, we can look forward to them with
comfort and hope.
-We then can say with John, “...Even so, come, Lord Jesus” (Rev 22:20).
-What about you? Are you prepared for that day?
-Obey the Gospel of Christ: Believe (John 3:16, 8:24), Confess (Matt 10:32, Rom
10:9-10), Repent (Luke 13:3,5; Acts 17:30), Be Baptized (Mark 16:16, Rom 6:3-4)
Walk in Newness of Life (Rom 6:4, Eph 4:22-24)
-If you’ve obeyed the Gospel, have you remained faithful? If not, confess your short-
comings, repent of them and pray for forgiveness (1 John 1:7-9, Acts 8:22-24).
